About Splinescan
The goal of Project Splinescan is to develop effective, open source 3D scanning tools for science and research.
The project encompasses all methods of object scanning, and places emphasis on the portability of code between operating systems,
and on the optimisation of code for low-power hardware.
A sneak preview of the new scanning software can be found in this zip file. The code is not complete, but it does work well enough to demonstrate a few of the functions that the scanning system can provide. Please do not email asking for instructions on getting this code to work, because instructions will be provided at the end of March. You will need to have python, pil and VideoCapture modules installed on your system to use the scanner on windows, or python, pil and streamer installed to use the system with linux.
Upload of plans has begun
I have started to upload plans and build documentation for the scanner. You can find some new photos in the gallery, as well as a few new files in the download section. Files will generally be in svg, blend, or pdf format. All of these formats should be readable using opensource software like inkscape, blender and the gimp.
New Logo
Thanks to some fantastic design work from http://www.dearjohndesign.co.uk/, splinescan will be getting an awsome new logo soon.
In other news, the outer chassis is just getting some minor cosmetic finishing, and all of the plans will be placed online soon.
Things going well
I’ve completed the laser emitters using some funky little LM317H ICs. Getting the lab cleared ready for the test phase now. Also go to go and see a man about some documentation and illo work.
